Speaking at the presentation of Moneta, a new economic magazine in Italy, energy giant ENI CEO Claudio Descalzi said the EU has almost killed European industry so that Trump’s tariffs are unable to do more damage.
“Trump may have given a jolt, but in my opinion you have to be alive to feel it. If you are almost in the numbness of death you can hardly feel it,” Descalzi said. He referred to EU levies against foreign imports which do not comply with “Green Deal” prescriptions, as an import tariff which forces those companies to look for other markets. “We think that we are the navel of the world, which we are not. There are other markets, with billions of consumers, and companies go there.”
