Antonio Di Pietro, the most famous former anti-corruption prosecutor in Italy, called the sentence against French political leader Marine Le Pen “shocking.” “If Marine Le Pen has been sentenced for what I read [in the media], then we are all guilty; please arrest all of us,” Di Pietro told the Rome daily Il Tempo.

That such a judgment comes from Di Pietro is all the more important as he was the leading force behind the mother of all modern anti-corruption investigations, the one called “Clean Hands,” which in 1992-93 destroyed the entire Italian post-war political system. So, he knows what he is talking about.”
