Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian spoke by phone separately with Pakistan’s and India’s Prime Ministers on April 26, urging both that the region jointly eradicate terrorism, Iran’s IRNA news agency reported.
President Pezeshkian told Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that “recent events have redoubled the need for greater regional cooperation to confront the ominous phenomenon of terrorism and destroy the financial and weapons infrastructure of terrorist groups, and the regional countries must focus all their efforts on establishing peace, security, and tranquility in the region,” IRNA reported. He offered Iran’s help, if Islamabad wished, to resolve “misunderstandings” between Pakistan and India.
Speaking with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday evening, April 26, Pezeshkian said that “these bitter incidents double the shared responsibility of all regional countries and require us to root out terrorism and ensure lasting peace and tranquility for our nations through empathy, solidarity, and close cooperation.” IRNA added that Pezeshkian “pointed to the precious legacy of India’s great leaders, such as Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru, expressing hope that their message of peace, friendship, and peaceful coexistence will continue to be the cornerstone of India’s relations with all countries.”
