Whereas industrial leaders in Europe urge the European Commission to de-escalate and enter serious constructive negotiations with the United States to avoid a trade war, French President Emmanuel Macron is insisting on both French and EU companies not to invest in the United States for the time being. He sees a halt to investment as a response to the punitive tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
“It is important that the investments announced in recent weeks are put on hold for some time until we have clarified things with the United States of America,” Macron said on April 3 during a meeting with representatives of the industrial sectors affected by the U.S. punitive tariffs.
