Incoming German Chancellor Friedrich Merz took the occasion of the Russian air attack in Sumy, which the Western media are howling killed 30 civilians, as pretext to denounce Putin’s “perfidious war” and reject any ceasefire in Ukraine. Merz declared on Germany’s ARD TV’s Carmen Miosga Show: “I say to all those in Germany who naively call on Putin to come to the conference table: This is the answer. This is what Putin does to those who talk to him about a ceasefire.”
Going further, Merz suggested he would send German Taurus long-range missiles to Ukraine so that it is enabled to come out of the defensive after three years of war against Russia. Merz named the destruction of the most important land connection between Russia and the Crimean peninsula as an option. This is where most of the military supplies for the Russian army are located, Merz emphasized, saying that he would only make the decision on the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles in consultation with European partners.
