Sergei Glazyev, a noted Russian economist, was appointed by Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko to the position of State Secretary of the Russia-Belarus Union State today. Glazyev has held many important posts in his long and distinguished career, most recently serving as Deputy State Secretary of the Russia-Belarus Union State. He will now have a major role in elaborating the economic development of these two nations, whose cooperation in the last few years has become ever closer.

Glazyev was born in 1961, in Zaporozhye in the Ukrainian S.S.R. TASS published a short biography in its article announcing his appointment. Glazyev has been a strong proponent of the central notion of “physical economy” as championed by LaRouche. Glazyev’s book Genocide: Russia and the New World Order was brought out in English in 1999 by the weekly magazine founded by LaRouche, Executive Intelligence Review. His latest work, Leaping Into the Future: China and Russia in the New World Tech-Economic Paradigm, also attests to the influence of LaRouche’s ideas.

Most recently in 2022, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of LaRouche, who died in 2019, Glazyev sent a message to LaRouche’s widow Helga Zepp-LaRouche. In the message, Glazyev noted, “If the leaders of the world’s nations had listened to the voice of Lyndon LaRouche, then perhaps we might have managed to avoid the social upheavals we confront today as a result of the collapse of the world financial and economic system, which is based on unlimited emission of the dollar and other Western reserve currencies.”

Lukashenko informed Glazyev of his appointment, telling him, “I have long thought that our movement toward a closer union between Belarus and Russia should be based primarily on economic cooperation.”

“You are an economist, I believe, it is your God-given talent. You possess many professional skills and experience despite what some may think otherwise,” he said. “Vladimir Putin and I believe that your contribution to building the Union State should be more significant. He has a high regard for you. You already know my opinion of you. We have decided to appoint you as the leader of the entire apparatus of the Union State. We see you as the driving force of our union integration. I think the results will be positive,” said President Lukashenko.
