Ali Larijani, a leading advisor to the Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and the former Speaker of the Parliament in Iran from 2008-2020, warned in an interview March 31 that any military action against Iran may finally push the country to develop its own nuclear weapons. “If the U.S. or Israel bomb Iran under the pretext of Iran’s nuclear issue, the Islamic Republic will be forced to move towards producing nuclear bombs. Iranian people will pressure us to develop nuclear weapons,” Larijani stressed, according to PressTV.
Larijani was responding to President Trump’s March 30 comments, when he threatened Iran with bombings and secondary tariffs if it doesn’t reach an agreement on its nuclear program. “Military action against Iran will not be without consequences,” Larijani said. “The content of Trump’s letter is almost the same rhetoric he always repeats.”
