U.S. President Donald Trump today turned down making money in favor of making peace. Yesterday, Ukraine’s acting president Volodymyr Zelenskyy on CBS News “60 Minutes” had appealed for the U.S. to make available, for purchase or lease, up to 10 Patriot air defense systems. He added that he has some European backers who have offered to help with the money.
Today, speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Zelenskyy’s offer of up to $15 billion for the deal, responded: “He’s always looking to purchase missiles. When you start a war, you got to know that you can win the war. You don’t start a war against somebody that’s 20 times your size and then hope that people give you some missiles.”
Afterwards, he followed with a post: “President Zelenskyy and Crooked Joe Biden did an absolutely horrible job in allowing this travesty to begin. There were so many ways of preventing it from ever starting. But that is the past. Now we have to get it to STOP, AND FAST. SO SAD!” (Emphasis in original.)
Otherwise, in Zelenskyy’s interview, CBS had made unfavorable insinuations about Trump and had suggested that Trump had tried to cut Kiev out of the negotiations. Trump denounced CBS for an inaccurate and fraudulent interview. He cited CBS News’ claim that Trump allegedly “rewrote history, saying, falsely, that Ukraine had started the war and calling … Zelenskyy ‘a dictator without elections.’”
