U.S. and Iran Hold Positive, ‘Constructive’ Talks in Oman

Both Iran and the United States agreed that the April 12 indirect talks in Muscat, Oman between U.S. Presidential Envoy Steven Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Dr. Abbas Araghchi were constructive and positive. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeli Baghaei described the talks as “constructive and conducted in a respectful atmosphere,” and both sides agreed on the “general framework” of future negotiations, which are to take place on April 19 in Rome, Italy, reported IRNA.

A White House statement on the Oman meeting described it as “very positive and constructive.” Dr. Araghchi told Iranian state television that “there were no sharp words used. Both sides showed commitment to take these talks forward until we reach a deal that is favorable to both sides.” Special Envoy Witkoff told Dr. Araghchi that he had instructions from President Trump to “resolve our two nations’ differences through dialogue and diplomacy, if that is possible.” Following the meeting, Dr. Araghchi held phone conversations with foreign ministers from Kuwait, Egypt and Qatar to brief them.
