In a speech to the EU-Ukraine Business Summit in Brussels on Thursday, April 10, Kiev’s Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal pitched his idea of Ukraine being at the center of a new geometry for Europe. “Today, Ukraine is not just a country at war,” he said, referring to the conflict with Russia. “It is the central point around which the new geometry of Europe is being built,” reported RT. “We are not a buffer zone. We are not a gray zone. We are a new opportunity for Europe to rediscover its identity,” Shmyhal emphasized.
He addressed the potential for EU investment in Ukraine’s natural resources—especially its mineral wealth—and other areas, such as agriculture, and the restoration and utilization of its gas storage facilities. “Our underground gas storage facilities, the largest in Europe, can increase the continent’s overall gas storage capacity by 25%. Our gas reserves are the second largest in Europe. All this creates a unique opportunity for strategic investors,” the Prime Minister noted,” reported the Odessa Journal.
From his remarks, it is clear that, whatever else may be true, when it comes to natural resources, Ukraine’s current leadership alone is capable of providing more than ample supplies of bovine excrement and biomethane for the entire world.
