Upgrading German Railways and Air Transport for NATO

Whereas details are not published yet, the new German government is firmly committed to upgrade the railway grid to allow massive NATO transport of troops and materiel to the alliance’s eastern front with Russia. DB Cargo has already been in contact with the Bundeswehr on that, but also there is mention of the conversion of ICE passenger trains to transport of wounded soldiers. Investments into upgrades of the rail sector have a priority for projects pointing eastward. DB Cargo will provide 345 flat wagons for the transport of battle tanks and other heavy military hardware.
