The Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova asked on April 17 whether Friedrich Merz may be planning a return to one of the Germany’s darkest times, RT reports. Maria Zakharova has suggested that Germany’s incoming Chancellor could revive a dark era in history, in response to a report that he will pledge to “again take responsibility.”
Bild published Friedrich Merz’s Easter speech, where he promised that “Germany will again take responsibility—in Europe and in the world. Not loud, but reliable. Not arrogant, but in partnership.”
On Saturday, April 19, Zakharova asked “to which historical period” the “again” in Merz’s purported address refers.
