Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan was indicted on May 13 by a federal grand jury on charges of aiding an undocumented immigrant to avoid immigration agents. The judge was arrested by FBI agents on April 25 outside her courtroom, immediately sparking protests and rebukes among local lawmakers. Judge Dugan was suspended from the bench in late April by the Wisconsin Supreme Court. In 2018 Judge Shelley Joseph in Newton, Massachusetts faced a similar federal indictment for helping a migrant avoid federal immigration agents, but the case against the Massachusetts judge was dismissed.
