German Chancellor Merz Discusses Ukraine and Trump

Friedrich Merz, Germany’s Chancellor from BlackRock, has declared that he will take responsibility for bringing the U.S. into line on Ukraine. In his first policy speech to the Bundestag, Merz emphasized his desire to keep the Trump administration onboard with support for Ukraine. Merz noted how he had spoken with President Donald Trump twice recently, and stressed how he was grateful for Trump’s support for an unconditional 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine. “Anyone who believes Russia would be content with a victory over Ukraine or parts of Ukraine, or the annexation of parts of the country, is wrong,” Merz said, reported AP. He rejected the idea of a “dictated peace” or the “subjugation” of Ukraine.

“We hope, and we all are working hard for this, that this clear position will not just be held everywhere in Europe but also by our American partners,” Merz said, adding: “It is of paramount importance that the political West not let itself be divided, so I will continue to make every effort to produce the greatest possible unity between the European and American partners.”
