The India-Pakistan ceasefire negotiated with the help of the United States seems to be holding as of Sunday, May 11. U.S. President Donald Trump announced the ceasefire on May 10, and today sent a congratulatory message to both Islamabad and New Delhi for “having the strength, wisdom, and fortitude to fully know and understand that it was time to stop the current aggression that could have led to the death and destruction of so many, and so much.”

President Trump said he would increase trade with both countries “substantially,” and he would work with them to achieve some permanent resolution of the Kashmir question. Pakistan praised the mediation role of the United States, although India made little mention of it, and they reiterated their position that they would respond to every Pakistani attack with a counterattack.
