Iran unveiled a new missile yesterday, called the Qassem Baseer with a range of 1,200 km. Iranian Defense Minister General Aziz Nasirzadeh revealed the missile during a broadcast on Iranian state TV, reported Mehr News. He said that the new solid-fueled missile will have better maneuverability as compared to the previous missiles, and will be immune against different air defenses such as THAAD, Patriot and those of the Israeli regime.
“The Qassem Baseer MRBM was specifically engineered based on the lessons we learnt from the True Promise operations last year,” said Nasirzadeh, referring to Iran’s two retaliatory strikes against Israel in 2024. “This missile has advanced guidance and maneuvering capabilities, and will be able to overcome most of the world’s missile defense systems. Based on technical estimates, we have assessed that approximately 5% of these missiles will be intercepted by Israel, and the rest will penetrate, as opposed to a much higher interception rate during the True Promise operations.”
