Mike Waltz Ousted as National Security Advisor

After preliminary reports in the morning, President Trump confirmed Thursday afternoon, May 1, that Mike Waltz was stepping down as National Security Advisor, and that Trump would be nominating him as UN Ambassador. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will be filling the post in the interim. While various media outlets read the tea leaves as to the reasons for the first high-level firing of Trump’s second term, and who might replace the well-known neo-con, pro-war figure (Witkoff, some say), the question remains as to what effect this will have on the nature of U.S. foreign policy.
