Pope Leo XIV Celebrates a Joyous and Hopeful Inaugural Mass

Today, with 200,000 in attendance in St. Peter’s Square, and millions more participating online, Pope Leo XIV officially inaugurated his papacy by celebrating “Holy Mass for the Beginning of the Pontificate of Pope Leo XIV.”

He expressed gratitude for the prayers of the faithful, and particularly during the conclave of the College of Cardinals. He said that the cardinals felt ‘’the working of the Holy Spirit, who was able to bring us into harmony, like musical instruments, so that our heartstrings could vibrate in a single melody,” reported Vatican News.

He expressed his hope for “a united Church, a sign of unity and communion, which becomes a leaven for a reconciled world.”
