Putin Assures Russia Wants To Eliminate Root Cause of Ukraine Conflict

Russia President Vladimir Putin stated in a clip released by journalist Pavel Zarubin of an interview posted by Russia 1 TV on Sunday, May 18, that Russia is seeking a lasting and sustainable peace by eliminating the root causes for its military operations in Ukraine.

He said that Russia has “enough strength and resources to bring what was started in 2022 to its logical conclusion” and fulfill Moscow’s main goals, reported RT.

Putin referred to the need to ensure the security of the Russian state, and referred to the territories of “Crimea, Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, and the regions of Kherson and Zaporozhye, which overwhelmingly voted in favor of joining Russia in referendums in 2014 and 2022.”

He also acknowledged that during the ongoing diplomacy between the U.S. and Russia to settle the conflict, both nations have their own national interests, and Russia expects that its security interests will be respected.
