Regional Implications of the India-Pakistan Crisis

An article in Russia’s daily Kommersant reported that the current India-Pakistan crisis has put both Russia and China in a very difficult situation. As reported by TASS, the article is headlined “India, Pakistan on Collision Course after Deadly Kashmir Attack,” and it says that “the latest confrontation between the two nuclear powers threatens to undermine unity within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) amid China’s rotating presidency this year, [and] risks derailing regional cooperation projects and places Russia in a difficult position.”

The India-Pakistan crisis already caused Indian Foreign Minster S. Jaishankar to not participate in the BRICS Foreign Ministers meeting in Brazil, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi just cancelled his trip to Moscow to participate in the May 9 Victory Day celebrations there.
