U.S. President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Maco Rubio plan on targeting the “Deep State” that dominates the National Security Council, according to Axios today. They intend to reduce its size drastically and transfer many of its powers to the State and Defense Departments.
“The NSC is the ultimate Deep State. It’s Marco vs. the Deep State. We’re gutting the Deep State,” an unnamed official told Axios, reducing the staff by half from its current 350 members.
“The right-sizing of the NSC is in line with its original purpose and the President’s vision,” Rubio told Axios in a statement. “The NSC will now be better positioned to collaborate with agencies.”
