Mike Waltz and family have had another setback within the Trump administration. Not long after Waltz was removed from his position as national security advisor, Trump withdrew his nomination of Waltz’s sister-in-law, Dr. Janette Nesheiwat, to be the surgeon general. Janette Nesheiwat’s sister, Julia, who is married to Waltz, served briefly as Homeland Security Advisor in the first Trump administration.
Leaving aside the issue of Nesheiwat’s (or her replacement’s) competence to hold the position, this change is consistent with a broader shift away from Waltz’s attempts to drag the U.S. into a war with Iran.
In his announcement that he was instead nominating Dr. Casey Means, Trump said that Nesheiwat would be given another position in the Department of Health and Human Services.
