In comments to Fox’s Sean Hannity on May 26, U.S. President Donald Trump indicated that he had struck a deal with China. Initial talks had been held between the two sides when Trump placed a 90-day freeze on the most important tariffs he had placed on China. Trump says that as a result of the agreements, China is now willing to open up more to U.S. companies. While there have been no official statements with regard to such an agreement, subsequent to the talks, He Lifeng, the head of the Chinese delegation, has also been in talks with a number of U.S. CEOs and has encouraged them to increase their operation in China, indicating that what Trump is claiming is not mere bravado but could represent something substantive.
