During his interview on NBC News’ “Meet the Press” on Sunday, President Donald Trump struck a seemingly intentionally ambiguous tone regarding Iran’s nuclear program, but clearly left the door open for a civilian program. NBC News anchor Kristen Welker asked the President directly whether his demand was merely for “limiting Iran’s nuclear program or total dismantlement?” Trump immediately responded by saying: “Total dismantlement.” However, when Welker asked Trump about Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s recent statement that the administration is open to Iran keeping a civilian nuclear program, Trump replied: “I didn’t say anything contradictory. I said that people are talking about that. And this is something that’s really pretty new in the dialogue. And I’d have to be, you know, my inclination is to say, ‘What do you need that for? You have a lot of oil.’”
