Erdogan on Trump Conversations about Iran-Israel Conflict

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a series of phone calls with world leaders urging diplomacy to resolve the nuclear weapons issue with Iran and the Iran-Israel conflict. In a call with U.S. President Donald Trump on June 15 he urged that diplomacy is the only viable path to resolve the spiraling conflict between Iran and Israel, warning of a “catastrophe” and welcomed Trump’s recent remarks aimed at de-escalating the tensions, saying “a disaster that could set the entire region ablaze must be prevented urgently.”

“Türkiye is ready to contribute in every possible way, including acting as a facilitator,” Erdogan said, reiterating Ankara’s willingness to support renewed nuclear negotiations.

Erdogan also discussed the humanitarian catastrophe in gaza and that the conflict must end.

During the call, Erdogan said Türkiye is ready to play a facilitating role to help de-escalate the conflict and support a return to nuclear negotiations, according to Türkiye’s Communications Directorate.

On June 16 Erdogan held a telephone discussion with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, in which the two leaders discussed the escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, as well as broader regional and global issues. Erdogan briefed the Iranian President on his telephone discussions with other world leaders.

Erdogan held similar telephone discussions on June 15 with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, according to Türkiye’s Communications Directorate.
