Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz declared today that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei “can no longer be allowed to exist.” While Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s administration has formulated a plan to assassinate Khamenei, who has been the leader of Iran since 1989, it was the one thing that U.S. President Trump had disallowed in his June 9 call with Netanyahu, according to press accounts, but Netanyahu’s team keeps putting the murder plan forward.
Katz used the occasion of an Iranian missile that today hit the Soroka Medical Center in Israel’s southern city of Be’er Sheva, to justify his call. President Isaac Herzog visited Be’er Sheva and declared that Israel must deliver “a most severe blow to the head of the snake sitting in Tehran. That is the reality.” Health Minister Uriel Buso called it “a war crime by the Iranian regime.”
However, the hospital’s director general Prof. Shlomi Kodesh told the media: “A missile hit the old surgical ward building at Soroka. It’s a relatively old building that had been evacuated in recent days…. The several injured we have are lightly hurt, mostly from the blast shockwave.”
