Marc Innaro, senior foreign correspondent for the Italian RAI state television, left RAI after 35 years and decided to speak out, exposing the gag imposed on mainstream journalists in all EU countries. In an interview with Rossiya 1 journalist Asya Emeliyanova, Innaro said that “an order from the top” came down in Italy, Spain, France, the U.K. and Germany.
Information became propaganda, starting with the Ukraine war. Innaro was a long-time correspondent in Moscow, and used to report live during the prime-time news program. In an effort to provide the context for the events in Ukraine, he showed a NATO Map in 1991 and a NATO map in 2022, to “show how the conflict was perceived in Moscow.” That report unleashed a political reaction in Rome, including parliamentary interrogations, and from that moment on, Innaro was gagged by RAI. This, despite the fact that eventually Pope Francis came to help, saying that NATO had “barked at the door of Russia.”
As he asked Rome why no RAI journalist was sent to Donbass to report from on the ground, he was told that RAI does not send embedded journalists. However, when the Ukrainian army invaded Kursk, two RAI correspondents were embedded in the Ukrainian army!
