On Sunday, June 22, representatives of LaRouche’s organization and the Schiller Institute in Mexico City went to a mobilization of the Pro-Palestine Platform at the famous Angel of Independence, and in front of the U.S. Embassy with the new leaflet. We contacted the organizers of the demonstration, who were demonstrating against Israel and the United States for its recent attacks against Iran. We read excerpts from the statement, “Will There Be Thermonuclear Fireworks for the Fourth of July?” over the bullhorn—up to the part where it explains that Iran is part of the BRICS and that this escalation can lead to a nuclear third world war, followed by the famous quote from John Quincy Adams, that the United States should not go abroad to seek monsters to kill, saying how different current U.S. policy is. We contacted, among others, an activist from Sinaloa who is in Mexico City, and who has a blog. And we noticed that even though the situation is very dangerous and there is more and more tension, not many people are demonstrating. We were about 100 people. So, when Helga Zepp-LaRouche says that we are sleepwalking towards a nuclear conflagration, again she is absolutely right.
An Ecuadorian contact Ernesto Pasmiño, who was Justice Minister in Rafael Correa’s government, has signed several Schiller Institute statements and participates in IPC meetings, published the statement in full on his FaceBook page. He wrote to introduce it:
“Friends: what is happening in the Middle East, with the conflict between Israel and Iran, puts us on the brink of a nuclear war. Those of us who love Peace must do something to prevent it. With that in mind, and to be clear about the cause of and what is going on with these wars destroying the world’s peace, I share with you a statement by the Schiller Institute on the subject, which I find quite interesting. Please read it.”
