President Donald Trump is still insisting that Iran give up its right to uranium enrichment for civilian nuclear power purposes, a demand that for Tehran is unacceptable. “The AUTOPEN should have stopped Iran a long time ago from ‘enriching,’” Trump posted on Truth Social, last night. “Under our potential Agreement—WE WILL NOT ALLOW ANY ENRICHMENT OF URANIUM!”
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had already made clear that if the U.S. insists on no enrichment, there’ll be no deal. Speaking at a joint press conference with his Egyptian counterpart in Cairo on June 2, Araghchi said Iran will soon respond to a proposal the U.S. has submitted via Oman. “That response will be based on the principles of the Iranian nation,” he said, reported Tasnim. He stressed that no ultimate agreement will be signed if Iran’s right to enrichment is not acknowledged. Reiterating the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program, Araghchi underscored that Tehran would by no means abandon its enrichment rights.
