On June 17 the United Nations issued a report which documents the highest number of children subjected to acts of violence since the UN began to monitor the problem in 1996 occurred in 2024. The report verified 41,370 incidents of violations against children in 2024. The UN found 22,495 children were killed, wounded, recruited as child soldiers, used as human shields, or denied basic humanitarian support such as children in Gaza being denied permits for medical treatments. In one year the attacks on schools rose 44% and 1,109 hospital were attacked. Some of the worse areas for violence against children are Gaza where 4,856 cases were documented, over 4,000 cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Other areas include Somalia, Nigeria, Syria, Mozambique, Lebanon, and Haiti. There is also a section on the increasing use of child sexual assault as a weapon of war. Experts warn that our collective humanity is being dismantled.
