The disastrous U.S.-based operation for humanitarian aid to Gaza, run by the so-called “Gaza Humanitarian Foundation,” announced that it has ceased any distribution of aid for today. The announcement comes after three days of mass shootings, casualties and deaths of Palestinians near the distribution sites.
The GHF explained that the matter of civilian safety beyond the perimeter of its distribution sites needs to be addressed, and that it has asked the IDF to “guide foot traffic in a way that minimizes confusion or escalation risks” near military perimeters; develop clearer guidance for civilians; and enhance training to support civilian safety. A GHF spokesperson stated: “Our top priority remains ensuring the safety and dignity of civilians receiving aid.”
Another spokesperson told the Times of Israel that they asked the IDF to introduce measures that guide foot traffic in a way that minimizes confusion or escalation risks near the IDF-operated perimeter around the sites; develop clearer IDF-issued guidelines to help Palestinians safely reach the distribution sites; and boost IDF training and refine internal procedures to ensure the safety of Palestinians.
