On June 18, Kaja Kallas told the European Parliament that Russia spends more for defense than the entire European Union. In a short youtube video, MEP Roberto Vannacci said she is a liar, and demonstrated this by listing defense expenditures for the U.S., EU, China and Russia from the SIPRI report. Furthermore, Kallas had said, referring to Russia: “You do not spend so much money for defense, if you don’t want to use it.” This is a self-indictment, Vannacci said. Kallas has thus accused the EU and the U.S., with their large defense expenses, of preparing a war.
Vannacci started his short video with a clip of Maria Callas, saying: “This is the real Callas, an unforgettable soprano with an exquisite and enchanting voice, whom we all remember with admiration. The other one, the false one, is the High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy [Kallas] and she says nonsense.”
