Food to Gaza—It's Not Rocket Science. Time To Rout Evil
by David Shavin (EIRNS) — Jul. 27, 2025
A convoy of aid trucks began moving today into Gaza with Israel’s promise of a 10-hour daily ceasefire period and of safe corridors for the aid trucks to reach their destinations. There will be, and should be, close concern the next day or two as to whether Israel takes down the obstructions within Gaza and allows the UN and the World Food Program to do their job. However, if events hold true to form, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu will lash out at Iran, Yemen, Syria or some new target in the immediate future. There still exists the same unwillingness to deal with the puppet leader in Israel—and one can add to that, Ukraine—both of whom hold power due to their acting the role required in a geopolitical, “dog eat dog” world.
Of course, there never was any physical problem getting minimal levels of food into Gaza. At any point during the most recent complete blockade of aid into Gaza (March to May) or the semi-blockade of June and July, the proper political muscle could have been applied to Netanyahu. Last week, the photo of the emaciated corpse of 14-year-old Abdul Jawad al Ghalban horrified the world—and four days ago, it was prominently republished in the Times of Israel. The ability to realize that the emperor has no clothes on was revived in populations.
What is it about the present culture of the West that has allowed mass killings in Sudan, Syria, Iraq, Haiti and Gaza to go unaddressed? Now ask, is it any different from the seeming inability to take up the incredibly straightforward solution to what is called the Middle East—the LaRouche “Oasis Plan”? What keeps the mind and the lips from addressing such matters?
There is simply no physical barrier—nor any technical or scientific barrier—to the massive desalination of water to green the deserts of the region, to provide the sufficient clean water and electricity for all the populations of the region. Is it possible your mind was poisoned by the words “peaceful nuclear energy” and “Lyndon LaRouche”?
As the “Oasis Plan” has demonstrated, such an approach is not only the humane one, the physically possible one, but it is also the only basis for capital investments that have a chance for actually producing enough real wealth to make good on the upfront investments governments need to supply. Yet somehow too many people still entertain the boondoggles of yet more upscale tourist markets saving their local economies.
It is time, it is overtime, to stop squirming, hoping that there is some other way. Even if the latest agony of March to July is successfully paused, it is time to face the horrible truth, that our culture has been addicted to pessimism, to a nasty view of their fellow man.
Be guaranteed that you will relive the agony of the last several months over and over again, with many, many more Abduls, unless, as with an alcoholic, you willfully choose to go cold turkey on the recent decades of pessimism. To do so, both the alcoholic and our present culture must have a positive mission in life. The difference is, the failure to embrace that mission for the alcoholic means one possible early death. For the culture, it means not just having to watch strangers starve to death, but very real confrontations with Russia and/or China, and a very real possible nuclear showdown.
Be forewarned—Abdul did not ask for the destiny that he was given any more than you might, yet it has happened.
Last year, 25-year-old Aaron Bushnell, an active duty member of the U.S. Air Force, set himself on fire in front of the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C. He stated: “I’m about to engage in an extreme act of protest, but compared to what people have been experiencing in Palestine at the hands of their colonizers, it’s not extreme at all. This is what our ruling class has decided will be normal.” That’s pretty clear—yet what people choose to forget is his challenge: “Many of us like to ask ourselves, ‘What would I do if I was alive during slavery? Or the Jim Crow South? Or apartheid? What would I do if my country was committing genocide?’ The answer is, you’re doing it. Right now.”
Organizing with a central passion for your public leaders to confront the positive, optimistic and very real “Oasis Plan” is so much better than setting oneself on fire. Abdul deserves it.
