The Lead
This Planet Cannot Endure Half Slave and Half Free

As Schiller Institute founder Helga Zepp-LaRouche told her international associates on Monday morning, the contrast between the just-concluded BRICS meeting in Brazil and the European NATO conference of last week could hardly be greater.
With the announcement of the new agreement between China and Brazil at the conclusion of the BRICS Summit that they will finally build the long-awaited 5,000 km Bioceanic Corridor that will connect Brazil’s Ilhéus Port on the Atlantic Coast to Peru’s new Chancay Port on the Pacific, the gulf between the two worldviews will appear larger than the Grand Canyon to all sentient beings on the planet.
For 250 years, the United States has been a battleground between these two opposing worldviews: The British imperial view that man is merely a higher-order beast, with some born to rule, and others born into servitude, and therefore expendable, based on their genetic traits, vs. the “American” outlook that all human beings are created equal, deriving their inalienable rights from a just Creator of the Universe, with infinite potential for self-perfection, for which governments are “formed among men.”
If we were acting as our true American selves, we would celebrate the Bioceanic Corridor, and recall that the Emperor of Brazil was the first foreign head of state to visit the United States at our Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia, held just eight years after the completion of Abraham Lincoln’s transcontinental railroad.
Instead, we are mourning the deaths of the dozens of Americans who were swept away in Texas floods, which should have been mitigated by needed water management infrastructure deemed not “cost effective,” and therefore not built, although we can find billions to bail out Wall Street and City of London speculators, while funding genocide in Gaza and war in Ukraine.
The point of then-U.S. Senate candidate Abraham Lincoln’s “House Divided” speech was a prescient warning that there was no such thing as “half slave and half free.” The Dred Scott decision meant that no state was “free” to outlaw slavery, and that through this, slavery had become the law of the land, but no one was willing to admit that this was indeed the case, preferring to imagine that there were still “free states,” and that the nation could hold together living under that delusion—not to mention (known by Lincoln but not stated there) that the institution of slavery was itself such a violation of the principles of natural law expressed in our founding documents, that the United States would be unable to survive as a sovereign republic if slavery were not ultimately eliminated.
The planet has now reached the point that slavery and freedom cannot coexist. International commerce and communication is such that it is impossible for parts of the planet to be developed and prosperous and others to remain backward and immiserated. Eighty years ago, President Franklin Roosevelt already was aware that this divide, if not resolved in favor of economic development, would lead to another world war.
The United States, which carried out the first successful revolution against the Roman imperial order, embodied at the time by the British Empire, must quickly awaken from its delusional slumber and recall its legacy—a legacy understood by no one better than America’s greatest statesman, Lyndon LaRouche.
Everyone knows that a word from President Trump could halt the genocide in Gaza, which would end the Houthi bombardments of Israel and vessels travelling to and from the Red Sea. If Trump would collaborate openly with President Putin of Russia, a deal could be made with Iran which would protect the security of Israel (within the ‘67 borders, or a fair equivalent as negotiated with a Palestinian State) while allowing Iran to develop nuclear energy to meet its energy and scientific requirements.
The so-called “military industrial complex” in the United States (which is performing very badly, at massive expense) could be retooled to launch the greatest non-wartime economic recovery ever seen, including creating millions of new jobs for young Americans, which pay well enough for them to actually contemplate home ownership and family formation.
Of course this means doing what LaRouche advocated: put the whole rotten Anglo-Dutch Wall Street and City of London system through bankruptcy, and let the billionaires fend for themselves without the “communist” policy of unlimited bailouts from the American middle class!
The fact that so many younger Americans (and younger people worldwide) have rejected the imperial order, as shown by their opposition to the genocide in Gaza, indicates the ripeness of the moment for beautiful big ideas to be assimilated and implemented.
One of the more challenging problems to be overcome is that President Trump appears to merely lash out on impulse, with little to no understanding of the principles involved, often swayed, as the deposed British Ambassador Darroch recommended, by whoever can give his ego the biggest momentary gust of hot air. He apparently has no understanding of the great potential represented by the BRICS-Plus cooperation and may inadvertently blow up the planet trying to stop it. Therefore, the American people and their representatives must be challenged to become better, and to think from the standpoint of the vision of what the future must be, and see our nation as Abraham Lincoln and Lyndon LaRouche did: a prosperous, happy society approaching 1 billion people.
The Schiller Institute at its upcoming Berlin conference will be preparing the leadership for the mighty chorus of humanity, which, if properly placed and tuned, can move mankind into the new paradigm.
