The conservative news daily Die Welt has leaked plans of the German Defense Ministry to spend €25 billion for 2,500 new battle tanks and 1,000 light tanks—probably the biggest single project so far of the ongoing militarization. The leak fits with the overall official propaganda that substantial increases of defense expenditures would protect the German way of life which is allegedly threatened by Russia.
But what about protecting the way of life by increasing investments in healthcare, education, housing and basic physical infrastructure—after all, up to €500 billion were promised in February to make the irrational €400 billion special defense budget acceptable. No news about any major investments here.
