Amorim Highlights China's Role as 'Trustworthy Partner' for Ibero-America's Development

“A true friend is the one who stands by you in difficult times, and China has proven to be exactly such a trustworthy partner for us,” Celso Amorim, Special Advisor to President Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil told the “Seminar on Relations between China and Latin America and the Caribbean Countries and the Mutual Perception of Public Opinion” held in Buenos Aires, Argentina on June 25, as part of the international “Overseas China Week and Global South Dialogue” series which the semi-official Chinese daily, Global Times, is organizing. Global Times posted a clip from Amorim’s video address to the seminar.

Amorim singled out China’s “steadfast and ongoing support for regional development,” as proof of China’s trustworthiness. Unlike the “divide and conquer” policies carried out by “some major powers” against Latin America and the Caribbean in the 19th and 20th centuries, “our cooperation with China is different,” he pointed out.
