At the just-concluded Council of Foreign Ministers meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) held in Tianjin in preparation of the upcoming August 31-September 1 meeting of the full SCO countries, China reaffirmed its support for Iran’s sovereignty. This occurred in a side meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi.
China’s Foreign Ministry reported on its X account that on July 16, 2025, “Wang Yi noted that China and Iran have established diplomatic relations for more than half a century” and that their “bilateral relations” have withstood the test of “the volatile international landscape.” Further, that “China will continue to support Iran in safeguarding its state sovereignty and national dignity.”
