China’s latest maglev train which will connect Beijing and Shanghai had its first public debut at the 17th China International Modern Railway Technology and Equipment Exhibition in Beijing on July 11. The maglev train is expected to shorten the travel time between the two cities to two and a half hours. The fast “bullet” trains now complete the same trip in a minimum of four and a half hours. This new maglev is designed to cruise at 600 kph (about 370 mph).
Shao Nan, senior engineer at Changchun Railway Vehicles, the developer of the train, said: “The maglev train is equipped with high-temperature superconducting magnets that provide reliable traction for the train, as well as a low-temperature thermostat and low-temperature refrigeration units to ensure that the superconducting system remains stable even under extreme conditions.”
