China’s UN Ambassador Fu Cong Condemns ‘Weaponization of Humanitarian Aid’

Fu Cong, China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, announced during a June 30 UN Security Council open debate on the Palestine-Israel issue, that, with regard to Palestine, China opposes the weaponization of humanitarian aid, strongly condemns attacks on civilians, and calls for a thorough investigation and accountability, Global Times reported that day. The international community must not allow such suffering to continue, and must take urgent action, said Fu.

“In Gaza, the humanitarian disaster is beyond words…. [China] strongly condemned attacks on civilians and the weaponization of humanitarian relief,” China Daily quoted Fu as saying. He pointed out the recent Israel Defense Forces killing of 500 Palestinians, and injuring 4,000 more since May 25 at the four designated “food and aid” distribution centers, run by the private Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF.) Fu asserted that “the militarized aid distribution mechanism promoted by the United States and Israel violates the principles of impartiality and neutrality, and has led to further danger for civilians.” He emphasized that “searching for food must not become a death sentence.”
