The morally bankrupt administration of Columbia University announced on July 22 that it has issued its final decisions on the discipline of 70 students who participated in the May 7, 2025 protest in a reading room at Butler Library. School administrators are currently engaged in negotiations with White House officials in an attempt to restore federal research funding, so any harsh treatment of the 70 students is viewed as an effort to win favor from the White House.
In a July 22 statement the university indicated that discipline included probation, suspensions ranging from one year to three years, the revocation of degrees, and expulsions. The university did not specify how it disciplined any individuals, but about 80% of the discipline would “separate them from the University.” Four student journalists who were not part of the protest, but were covering the protest as part of their journalistic duties, were also given suspensions.
