On July 20, Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouty met with Germany’s new Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Reem Albali-Radovan in New Alamein City, one of Egypt’s newest cities, to discuss their bilateral partnership and the “humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip,” reported Daily News Egypt yesterday.
In the context of the July 28-29 UN conference on a two-state solution for Palestine and Israel this week, it is significant that Ms. Albali-Radovan “affirmed her country’s support for Egypt’s efforts regarding the situation in Gaza, backing the two-state solution and rejecting the displacement of Palestinians,” according to Daily News Egypt. Strengthening their countries’ economic ties was the main topic of discussion. Egypt’s Madbouty emphasized that “German development cooperation with Egypt” expects to focus on “expanding renewable energy, enhancing energy efficiency, developing technical education, improving water resource management,” among other initiatives, the newspaper noted.
Also attending the meeting was Egypt’s Planning and Economic Development Minister Rania Al-Mashat who said there is a €1.6 billion portfolio between the two countries and stated these funds “aim to implement development projects in priority sectors such as energy, climate, water supply, sanitation, irrigation, migration,” among others, reported Daily News Egypt.
