The EU Commission has proposed to eliminate the agricultural budget and merge it with so-called cohesion funds (subsidies for less developed regions) and social funds. The umbrella organization of European farmers’ unions has called for a mobilization and a protest in Brussels.

According to Italian Agriculture Minister Francesco Lollobrigida, quoted by the daily Il Fatto, the EU proposal means €80 billion less for farmers, which the minister calls “insane.”
