The first round of indirect talks between Hamas and Israel ended inconclusively Reuters reports this morning, citing two Palestinian sources familiar with the matter. “After the first session of indirect negotiations in Doha, the Israeli delegation is not sufficiently authorized ... to reach an agreement with Hamas, as it has no real powers,” the sources told Reuters.
Reuters notes that before he left for Washington, Netanyahu said that Israeli negotiators taking part in the ceasefire talks have clear instructions to achieve a ceasefire agreement under conditions that Israel has accepted.
Reuter later reported, again citing two Palestinian sources, that Israel’s refusal to allow the free and safe entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza remains the main obstacle to progress, though another session of indirect talks was scheduled for the evening.
