France Equates Israeli Settler Violence with 'Terrorism'

A spokesperson for the French Foreign Ministry condemned the July 28 West Bank murder of Palestinian activist Awdah Hathaleen, and described Israeli settler violence as a “matter of terrorism.” France is demanding that the killer be held responsible. This came after Yinon Levi, the Israeli settler suspected of shooting and killing Hathaleen, was detained by Israeli police, only to be released under house arrest. After the shooting Levi is reported to have said, “I’m glad I did it.” He has only been charged with suspicion of ‘'reckless conduct resulting in death and unlawful use of a firearm.'’

Hathaleen, a local English teacher, is more widely known for having played a supporting role in the Oscar-winning documentary, “No Other Land,” which tells the story of relentless violence against his Palestinian community. Hathaleen, 31, chose to teach English so that the children of the area could more effectively tell the world about their fight for justice.
