Gaza Heading Towards 'Unprecedented Humanitarian Catastrophe'

In a statement issued this morning, the Government Media Office warned that the people of Gaza are facing the largest massacre in history. “Gaza is heading towards an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe with the ongoing genocide by killing and mass starvation against more than 2.4 million people, including 1.1 million children, in the Gaza Strip,” it said. “We are on the verge of a phase of mass death due to the ‘Israeli’ occupation’s closure of all crossings for more than 140 days, preventing the entry of humanitarian and relief aid, baby milk, and fuel, tightening the siege completely, and the depletion of food and medicine, and the continuation of the starvation policy.”

“The world is watching Gaza being slaughtered and killed by starvation and extermination without taking any action,” it concluded. “We are facing the largest mass massacre in modern history.”

Yesterday Al Mayadeen cited a Government Media Office report issued on Friday, July 18, that estimates that Israel has dropped 125,000 tons of explosives in Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023. The report describes the ongoing offensive as a “genocidal” war, highlighting what it calls the “forced evacuation of 2 million civilians” and the occupation of 77% of Gaza’s land, which spans 360 sq. km.
