Germany’s Defense Minister, Boris Pistorius,in an interview with London’s Financial Times, said that peace and détente can only be discussed from a position of strength. If deterrence fails and Russia attacks, then, according to the German minister, German soldiers will be “ready to kill Russian soldiers.” Pistorius also noted the importance of NATO’s eastern flank in the Baltics and Poland, saying the soldiers in the German brigade in Vilnius know their job well.
Responding to these comments, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov expressed surprise that the German Defense Minister was talking about killing Russian soldiers. “But, alas, that’s true,” he told RBC. “Germany is becoming dangerous again.”
