Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid denounced the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for dragging Israel into an endless war which has become a “strategic failure,” and vowed to bring his government down.
Lapid, who is a former prime minister, gave a hard-hitting press conference on July 28, where he cited classified “intelligence and operational information” to declare that Netanyahu’s war has led to operational chaos, deepening international isolation, and leaving Israel without any political vision or plan for how to end the war.
“Anybody who fought will have to hope that they are not arrested the moment they leave Israel’s borders,” he warned. He added that the government has lost control of both the military and diplomatic fronts. “The Israeli government no longer knows why soldiers continue to die in Gaza,” Lapid charged.
