Orban Maintains, No Peace Unless Trump and Putin Find Agreement

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has again called for an in-person meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump, because he thinks peace will not come from Ukraine. Interviewed by Ultrahang TV on July 17, Orban called Trump “the man of peace” with a sincerity other Western governments and officials in Kiev were lacking.

“Everyone says they want peace, but there’s still war. That means someone is lying,” he said, adding that the liars “want the war to continue, no matter what they say.… The conflict will not stop until the Russian and American presidents sit down at the negotiating table.” Orban added that such a meeting could lay the foundation for a broad agreement beyond the Ukraine issue, also dealing with global trade and arms control.
