President Trump’s discussion about sending defensive weapons to Ukraine has not caused much of a furor in Moscow, judging from comments made by Putin spokesman, Dmitrii Peskov. In response to what have been characterized as Trump’s “tough comments” regarding Putin, and warnings that Trump will allow weapons to go to Ukraine, Peskov simply said that Trump “has a rather tough style” generally.
According to Peskov, bilateral relations between Russia and the United States are currently “pretty broken.” “We expect that Trump and his team will continue their efforts to bring the Ukrainian settlement process to the political and diplomatic plane,” he said. When asked about taped comments made by Trump last year, that he could “bomb Moscow” in retaliation, Peskov said that it was difficult to determine the veracity of these tapes as the atmosphere is so full of “fakes.”
The statements were also covered pretty matter-of-factly by the Russian evening news.
