Deputy Representative of Russia to the UN Dmitry Polyanskiy delivered a sharp statement on July 25 at the United Nations Security Council open briefing on Ukraine, convened by the U.K., France, and other nations, in which he blasted the West for its ulterior motives in calling the meeting.
Polyanskiy highlighted the hypocrisy of “our Western colleagues” regarding concern for humanitarian issues in Ukraine by offering numerous examples of human rights violations by the Kiev regime which any honest convener of such a briefing would be concerned about, but which the West has ignored.
“To tell the truth, when we found out about the request by our Western colleagues to hold today’s meeting on Ukraine, we thought for a moment that such an intention was prompted by the poignant letter addressed to the UNSC President by a group of Ukrainian political prisoners, which we received in early July. Let me remind you that the letter was signed by well-known politicians, human rights defenders, civil servants, and members of parliament who are now prisoners of the Zelensky regime…. Constitutional norms and laws are not being upheld, and people are being thrown into prison just for ‘calling for peace and elections, for opposing the war between Slavic peoples, for their religious and political beliefs, for criticizing forced mobilization, and for their civic stance.’”
